Spanish, Healthcare, & Community <p><strong>​Meghan Frances Dabkowski</strong>, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of Spanish, Portuguese, and Linguistics in the University of Delaware Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures (DLLC), with a joint appointment in the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science. She specializes in Spanish and Portuguese linguistics, with a focus on phonetics, phonology and sociolinguistics, and is co-author of the 2021 book <em>Fonética y fonología españolas, 2</em><em>da</em><em> ed. </em>Her academic and research interests are varied and include sociophonetic variation, the intersection of intonation and pragmatic meaning, and understanding the ideologies and mechanisms of stigmatized language varieties. She teaches advanced Spanish and Portuguese language and linguistics courses, as well as community engagement courses focused on intersections of Spanish with education and Spanish in healthcare contexts.  Meghan is editor-in-chief of DLLC's annual magazine <em>the Polyglot</em>, and faculty advisor to LASER (Latinx Space for Enrichment and Research), a new RSO centering on a program that connects Latinx area high school students to UD student mentors. <br></p>2021<p>​This project highlights themes of central concern to students enrolled in the Spanish for Healthcare minor: the intersections of language, health, and healthcare. The project aims to strengthen ties between UD and Spanish-speaking communities in DE by connecting students to those communities in health, wellbeing, and healthcare contexts. <br></p>mdabkows
