Biography
Deborah Steinberger is Associate Professor
of French and Comparative Literature at the University of Delaware. She
currently serves as Associate Chair of the Department of Languages,
Literatures, and Cultures, and directs the program in Comparative Literature.
Her research areas include seventeenth-century theater and writing by early
modern women. She has published articles on these subjects, as well as critical
editions of epistolary and dramatic works by the seventeenth-century writer and
painter Françoise Pascal. Her current research focus is early modern French
journalism, and she has published several articles and is currently writing a
book on the early French newspaper Le Mercure Galant. She
recently collaborated with colleagues at Yale University and the Université de
Fribourg (Switzerland) on a digital humanities project onLes Nouvelles
Nouvelles, a 1663 novella collection by the editor of the Mercure
Galant, Donneau de Visé.
